The EU-SL Dialogue was held today at the Ministry of Development Strategies & International Trade. The meeting was chaired by Hon. Malik Samarawickrama Minister of Development Strategies & International Trade and organized by his ministry with the assistance of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka.
The meeting was held with the Embassy of the European Union and the embassies of the member states of the EU to address various outstanding matters relating to investment in Sri Lanka.
H E Tun Lai Margue, Ambassador of the European Union to Sri Lanka co-chaired the meeting. The participants from the European missions were representatives of France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, the United Kingdom and senior officials from the European Union missions based in Colombo and New Delhi and representatives of the European Chamber of Commerce.
The Sri Lankan State institutions present were the Ministry of health Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, Ministry of Digital Infrastructure, Department of Public Finance, Department of Trade and Investment Policy, the Department of Commerce, Information & Communication Technology Agency, Sri Lanka Customs ,Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Ministry of Ports and Shipping, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, Civil Aviation Authority, Department of Inland Revenue.
The issues in questions included the need for Transparent Tender Procedures, for acceptance of Digital Signature and promotion of a paperless concept, matters relating to specific companies, the Bidding Process for the East Container Terminal, levying of charges on Sri Lankan importers and exporters for local charges, Use of term “Energy” on Food and Drinks Labels, Food Colour Coding for Sugar Levels, Effects of noise pollution on tourism projects, Lifting the duty concessions for milk powder importers, Delays in reimbursement of VAT 1, and the approval of licence for Dengvaxia Dengue vaccine.
